Our Story

Families Are Losing Their History

When someone passes away, families don’t just lose a person — they lose passwords, instructions, and stories.

Families using Heirloom Vault to preserve memories, documents, and life stories together

Photos live on phones. Videos are scattered across cloud accounts. Stories exist only in memory. Critical context disappears when someone passes unexpectedly.

James and Tami Barrett saw this personally through decades of family life, caregiving, leadership, and community involvement. They didn't want another storage platform. They wanted a legacy platform.

Heirloom Vault was created to give families one secure, private place to preserve what truly matters — before it is too late.

What families actually need preserved

  • Wills, trusts, and legal documents
  • Final wishes and funeral plans
  • Passwords, account numbers, and PINs
  • Emergency contacts — attorney, doctor, advisor
  • The stories behind treasured heirlooms
  • Christian faith, values, and life lessons

What Your Vault Does For Your Family

Everything Your Family Needs — In One Secure Place

No more scattered files, forgotten passwords, or conversations that never happened. Heirloom Vault brings it all together — and tells you exactly what’s still missing.

Estate Readiness Score

A live 0–100 score that tells you how prepared your family actually is — right now, today. Not just a storage bar. A real answer to the question every family puts off asking. See exactly what’s missing and fix it in minutes.

Important Documents

Wills, trusts, insurance policies, deeds, power of attorney, birth certificates, marriage records — securely uploaded and organized by category.

Final Wishes & Funeral Plans

Record service preferences, burial wishes, music selections, obituary notes, and everything your family would need to honor you the way you want.

Secure Notes

Passwords, account numbers, PINs, and private instructions — encrypted and accessible only to the people you trust.

Emergency Contacts

Attorney, doctor, financial advisor, pastor, insurance agent — everyone your family would need to reach, in one place.

Treasured Heirlooms

Photograph your possessions, tell the story behind each one, and record exactly who should receive it — in your own words, updated any time, no attorney required.

Family Profiles

Each vault member has a profile with legal name, contact information, date of birth, photo — a living record of the people who matter.

Legacy Letters

Write personal letters to the people who matter most — your spouse, children, grandchildren. Keep them private while you’re here, or seal them to be opened together when the time comes. Your family unseals them collectively — a shared moment of grace, not a unilateral decision. The letter your family will treasure forever.

Trusted Advisor Access

Give your estate attorney, CPA, or financial planner scoped, read-only access to the documents they need — with a full access log and your control at every step. The professionals in your life, finally working from the same source of truth.

Our Founders

James & Tami Barrett

Heirloom Vault was founded by James and Tami Barrett — partners in marriage, family, Christian faith, and now business. With more than three decades of marriage and a shared commitment to generational stewardship, they built Heirloom Vault around a simple belief: the most valuable assets families pass down are not financial — they are stories, wisdom, values, and identity.

James brings over 40 years of technology experience, including executive leadership in healthcare SaaS, cloud architecture, and large-scale data systems. Throughout his career, he has focused on building systems that protect and preserve critical information for organizations serving vulnerable populations.

Tami brings the grounding force behind the mission — a lifelong focus on family, care, stability, and practical wisdom. Her perspective ensures Heirloom Vault remains focused on real families, real life, and real legacy — not just technology.

Together, they built Heirloom Vault to help families preserve what matters most — securely, privately, and intentionally — for generations to come.

Our Philosophy

Legacy Is More Than Money

Most legacy planning tools focus on financial assets. Heirloom Vault exists because families are more than balance sheets.

Privacy Is Foundational

Your family’s history should never be treated as advertising inventory. We are built on data ownership, security-first architecture, minimal data exposure, and long-term durability. Your data is never sold, shared, or used for advertising — ever.

Your Data Belongs to You

You can download your entire vault — every document, photo, note, and legacy letter — as a ZIP file at any time, no questions asked. We believe portability is part of trust. You should never feel locked in.

Technology Serves Families

Technology should preserve voices that would otherwise be lost, capture wisdom before it disappears, reduce burden during crisis moments, and help families stay connected across generations.

Clarity, Not Complexity

If a feature confuses someone, it is a bug. Heirloom Vault is designed for real families — clear, accessible, and purposeful at every step.

Our Values

What We Stand For

Stewardship Over Ownership

We are stewards of family history, not owners of user data.

Security Without Compromise

Security is not a feature. It is the foundation.

Family First

If a feature does not help real families, it does not belong in the product.

Christian Faith and Integrity

We believe business should be conducted with honesty, transparency, and long-term accountability.

Long-Term Thinking

We design for decades, not quarters.

FAQ

Questions Families Ask

What is Heirloom Vault?

A secure, invitation-only digital vault where families store wills, final wishes, important documents, emergency contacts, and treasured memories — so nothing is lost and no one is left guessing when it matters most.

Do I need to redo my will every time my wishes change?

No — and that’s one of the most valuable things Heirloom Vault does for your family. Wills are legal documents. Updating them takes time, attorneys, and witnesses. But your personal wishes — who should receive your mother’s china, what music you want at your service, which grandchild gets the pocket watch — those are living decisions that deserve a living document.

With Heirloom Vault, you can photograph your possessions, describe them in your own words, and record exactly who should receive each one. Update it from your phone tonight if something changes. No lawyer, no paperwork, no cost. Your family will know your heart — not just what the legal documents say.

Is my family’s information safe?

Yes. Everything in your vault is encrypted, stored on U.S.-based Microsoft Azure servers, and protected by two-factor authentication. We are a family-owned American business — your information is never sold, shared, or used for advertising.

How much does it cost?

Heirloom Vault costs $19 per month, or $169 per year (saving over $59). Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial — no credit card required.

If your subscription lapses, your vault moves to read-only mode — you can still view and download everything, nothing is hidden. Trial accounts receive a grace period with email warnings before any permanent deletion. Paid accounts receive a longer protected window. You’ll always have time and notice to export your vault before anything is removed.

Who can see what’s in my vault?

Only the people you personally invite. As vault owner, you control who has access and at what level. Your spouse can co-edit alongside you. Family witnesses have read-only access to stay informed. A Trusted Advisor (attorney, CPA, pastor) can be granted scoped professional access with a full log of everything they view. Each person must create their own account — no one can see your vault without your explicit invitation.

What can I store?

Wills, trusts, insurance policies, deeds, power of attorney, funeral wishes, encrypted secure notes for passwords and account numbers, the stories behind treasured heirlooms, emergency contacts, personal legacy letters — everything your family needs in one place.

What is the Estate Readiness Score?

It’s a live 0–100 score that evaluates how prepared your family actually is — right now. It checks whether you’ve invited family members, documented emergency contacts, recorded funeral plans, uploaded key documents, written legacy letters, and more. Each item links directly to the place in your vault where you can fill it in. Most families find gaps they’d never thought about. That’s exactly the point.

Can my attorney or financial advisor access my vault?

Yes — on your terms. You can grant a Trusted Advisor (estate attorney, CPA, financial planner, or pastor) read-only access to your vault. You control exactly what they can see, and a full access log shows you when they viewed anything. When you’re done, you revoke their access with one click. No sharing passwords. No printing documents. A professional source of truth that you own and control.

What happens to my data if I don’t subscribe after the trial?

Your vault moves to read-only mode — you can still view and download everything you’ve stored, nothing is hidden. You’ll receive email warnings well in advance of any permanent deletion, and you can export your entire vault as a ZIP file at any time. We will never delete your data without giving you ample notice and a clear path to save it first.

The Conversation You Haven’t Had Yet

Most couples never have the conversation. Not because they don’t care — because there was never a right moment, the right tool, or the right place to start. Heirloom Vault gives you that place. A private, secure vault where your family’s most important information waits patiently — ready when the time comes. For $19 a month, that peace of mind is one of the best investments you’ll ever make.
